Instructions for readying a newly built computer to be sold/donated.
If at any time during these procedures you find errors, add a small sticker to the case and mark the nature of the error: "part missing"; "HDD wipe failed"; "memtest failed"; "ubuntu won't load"; "no ethernet".
- Run diagnosis CD and write statistics on a sticker that is placed on the computer case.
- Processor class (e.g., Pentium 4, Athlon 2100, etc.)
- Processor speed (e.g., 1.6GHz, 800MHz, etc.)
- Memory capacity (e.g., 1GB, 256MB, etc.)
- Memory speed (e.g., 533MHz DDR, etc.)
- Hard disk size (e.g. 40GB, etc.)
- Optical disc drive type/speed (e.g. CD-RW 24x, DVD +R 48x, etc.)
- Wipe hard disk with DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) Reboot after finished. Write "WIPED" on sticker after hard disk size.
- Insert Ubuntu CD. When prompted, type "memtest" and hit enter. Write "OK" on sticker after memory size.
- Reboot after memtest finishes. When prompted by Ubuntu CD, just hit enter.

- Check for detection of network card (System > Administration > Networking) and write on sticker (typ. "eth").
